MARK YOUR CALENDAR Re-enactors association to be subject of historical society The Clarke County Re-enactor's Association will be the featured speakers for the March meeting of the Clarke County Historical Society. Group leaders Brent Fuller and Steve Kennedy will give a history of re-enacting as well as model period clothing and attire. The meeting is scheduled Sunday, March 30, 2:30 p.m. at Grove Hill Town Hall. The public is invited to attend. SWAIA to host workshop The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association (SWAIA) monthly meeting will be Tuesday, April 15, 6-8 p.m. at the Jackson Steakhouse. The meeting will be a workshop with Craig Baab, an attorney with the Alabama Appleseed Center for Law and Justice in Montgomery, as guest speaker. The workshop is entitled "Protect Your Rights: Legal Issues Related to Heir Property." It is being sponsored by Alabama Cooperative Extension System (Washington County Extension Office Coordinator) and the Alabama Appleseed Center for Law and Justice. The focus of the presentation is on how to be aware of the risks involved in heir property, knowing your rights as a landowner and the proper steps to protect your land and rights. SWAIA is also cosponsoring "A Roast of Clarke County Mayors" May 3, 6 p.m. at the H.W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House, downtown Jackson. Admission to this event is $5 per person. The Honorable U.S. Congressman Artur Davis will serve as the toastmaster and Mayor Sam Jones of Mobile will be the special guest. All are invited to participate including those in political office or organizations, regardless of party affiliation. Support for this event in the form of program book ads, raffle ticket sales, prizes or personal donations are all appreciated. Coffeeville RSVP to meet The Coffeeville RSVP will meet April 1 at the Nutrition Center at 2 p.m. Thank you to those members who made cakes and pies for the CCARC Spring Festival. Daughters of the Confederacy to decorate graves The Private Gibeon Jefferson Sullivan Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy will be decorating graves of Confederate soldiers on April 5 for Confederate History Month. AIDT Leadership Development training to be offered Alabama Industrial Development Training (AIDT) is partnering with the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce to offer the AIDT program to Jackson area businesses and industries April 1-2, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., at the Alabama Southern Community College at the Jackson campus. This class will lay a foundation for all levels of leaders, and will focus on roles/responsibilities, communication, teamwork, motivation and leadership. Kendall Haywood, a certified manager from the Institute of Certified Professional Managers at James Madison University, brings 19 years of experience in her class presentation. Preschool registration at First Baptist Jackson Registration for the 2008-2009 school year is in progress at First Baptist Church in Jackson for their weekday preschool program. Classes offered are 4K for children who will be 4 before Sept. 2, 2008. This class meets daily 8 a.m. until 12 noon. Mother's Day Out classes meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays form 8 a.m. - 12 noon for children ages 6 months to 3 years old. Class of 1989 planning a 20th reunion cruise The Jackson High School Class of 1989 is preparing for a 20th reunion graduation cruise in 2009. Social assistance on Wednesdays at Salvation Army The Salvation Army Social Service office is open on Wednesdays from 9-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. When in need of assistance with food and a variety of other needs, the office attempts to assist where they can. Alcoholics Anonymous meetings Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are conducted in the fellowship hall of Visitation Catholic Church, West Clinton Street in Jackson Wednesdays, 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. Diabetes Classes Diabetes classes will be conducted each Tuesday, 6:30 p.m. at the Jackson Medical Center. Heart of Dixie Collectors Club meets last Monday of month The Heart of Dixie Collectors Club will meet the last Monday of every month at the Jackson Steakhouse at 7 p.m. in the meeting room. Collectors of all types are welcome in sharing their knowledge and collections.
