Area Obituaries

Joyce Faye Alexander

Joyce Faye Alexander, a native of Knoxville, Tenn. and a resident of Jackson, died March 17, 2008 at Robertsdale Healthcare Facility in Robertsdale. She was 76 years of age. A member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson, she was a retired security guard for Pinkerton Security and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict. Her husband, Richard Alexander, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Edward (Cindy) Alexander of Jackson; one daughter, Debra (Marty) Hanks of Daphne; three brothers, Dave Allman Jr. of New York, Mike (Wilma) Allman of Knoxville and Dewey Allman of Mobile; and two grandchildren, Ryan Alexander and Nathan Alexander.

Visitation is today (Thursday, March 20) from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. funeral hour at the First Baptist Church of Jackson with the Rev. Dr. Tim Huie officiating. Interment will be at the Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson with Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson directing.

Sandra Felice Atchison

Sandra Felice Atchison, died March 12, 2008 at the age of 53 in a hospital in Mobile. A native of Clarke County and resident of Deer Park, she was a homemaker and a member of the Chatom Church of God.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Atchison of Deer Park; her father, James Lewis Moss of Chatom; three brothers, William Moss of Deer Park, Jimmy Moss of Tibbie and Jerry Moss of Chatom; two sisters, Tammy Mitchell and Tabitha Moss, both of Chatom; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were March 14, in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home of Chatom. Interment was in the Chatom Church of God Cemetery.

Dan Scott Sr.

Dan Scott Sr., a resident of Jackson, died March 11, 2008 at Kindred Health Care in Mobile at the age of 80. Lawrence and Lottie O. Scott, his parents; one daughter, Betty Joe Scott; and one son, James Smith, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Scott of Gainestown; six sons, Dan (Laura) Scott Jr. of Gainestown, Tommie (Celestine) Scott of Zimco, Min. Arthur (Ida) Scott of Thomasville, Clifton Scott and Alfred Scott, both of Mobile and David (Pamalea) Scott of Tuscaloosa; three daughters, Olivia (Cornelius) Williams, Rosa Bush and Aree Scott, all of Mobile; 21 grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services were March 15 at the Rocky Mount Baptist Church in Barlow Bend with the Rev. King David Jackson, pastor, and the Rev. Roderick Scott, officiating minister. Interment followed in the Union Chapel Cemetery in Barlow Bend with Jackson Funeral Home directing.

Jim Earnest Davis

Jim Earnest Davis, a native of Leroy and resident of Mobile, died at the age of 57 on March 13, 2008. He was a former member of St. Union Baptist Church of Leroy. Dorothy and Johnny Davis St. preceded him in death.

Survivors include three sons, Timothy D. (Susan) Davis of Greenwich, Conn., Trenton Q. Davis of Mobile and Demetrius Chaney of Atlanta, Ga.; four daughters, Jimetha Davis of Louisville, Ky., Kimberly Freemen of Leroy, Brittany Davis of Mobile and Candice Chamber of Prichard; five grandchildren; two sisters, Fannie Davis and Joann Yelder, both of Mobile; three brothers, Johnny (Minnie) Davis Jr. of Fayetteville, N.C., Henry Davis of Tallahassee, Fla. and Willie (Sarah) Jackson of Gulf Port, Miss.

Visitation is today (Thursday), 6-8 p.m. at the chapel of Jackson Memorial Funeral Home of Jackson. Funeral services will be Friday, March 21, 1 p.m. at the St. Union Baptist Church in Leroy with the Rev. Richmond Chaney, pastor and officiating minister. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Miriam Nelson

Miriam "Pee Wee" Nelson, a native and resident of Thomasville, died March 16, 2008 at the age of 52 at Mobile Infirmary.

She is survived by three brothers, Bobby Joe (Brenda) Nelson of Pine Hill, Russell (Robin) Nelson and J.D. (Shelly) Nelson, all of Gulf Shores; and two sisters, Vera Nelson of Thomasville and Diane (Marvin) Smith of Pine Hill.

Funeral services were March 19 at Liberty Baptist Church in Thomasville with Bro. Bill Faircloth officiating and St. Stephens Funeral Home of St. Stephens directing.

Pallbearers were Mark Smith, Tony Nelson, Chris Nelson, Michael Nelson, Ian Snyder and Gary Nelson. Anthony Nelson was the honorary pallbearer.

Vivian Martin Jackson

Vivian Martin Jackson, 53, died Feb. 10, 2008 in Little Rock, Ark.

She is survived by two sons, Gregory (Lauren) Jackson II of Houston, Texas and Geoffrey Jackson of Little Rock, Ark.; her mother, Rosie Martin of Jackson; three brothers, Larry (Dorissa) Martin of Killen, Texas, Earl (Gloria) Martin and the Rev. Carl Martin, both of Jackson; six sisters, Yvonne (Elijah) Bennet of Chicago, Ill., Janice (Lawrence) Nelson of Little Rock, Althea Martin of Phoenix City, Kathy (Alonzo) Terry and Lillian (Brenson) Parks, both of Atlanta, Ga., Christine (Ronnie) Wilson of Lucedale, Miss.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Feb. 16 at the Greater Christ Temple Pentecostal Church in Little Rock with Robinson Mortuary of Little Rock directing.
