CCARC hosts Spring Jubilee 2008

Despite cloudy and windy conditions a large group of runners turned out for the annual 5k Run/Fun Walk to kick off the day's festivities.
Despite a windy, cloudy start to the day, the crowds turned out for Clarke County ARC's annual Spring Jubilee celebration Saturday, March 15.

This year's celebration was an extra-special occasion, as the organization marked its 35th year serving people with cognitive disabilities.

The event featured entertainment by local dance groups and the band After Five, as well as some dancing by CCARC clients. The public appeared to enjoy the festivities, food and opportunities to purchase a variety of plants and other items.

Several competitions highlighted the day. Winner of the Gumbo Cookoff was Kara Pringle.

Male winner of the annual 5K Run was Mike Neal, with a time of 21:45. Second place went to Kent Myer, with a time of 21:47 and Alex Taylor took third place with a time of 21:50.

First place female runner was Kathryn Pearson, with a time of 28:44. Laura Champion was second with a time of 30:57, followed by Bonnie Pope who had a time of 35:51.

Winners of the Sunshine Garden Club's Flower Show were as follows:
•Class 1 - Sendora Owens
•Class 2 - Mabel Williams
•Class 3 - Lucille Thornton
•Class 4 - Cathy Jones
•Class 5 - Peggy Jones

Dogs taking home first place trophies in the annual Dog Fashion Show, following the •Do-Dah Parade were:

•Funniest - Billy, owned by Jessica Higginbotham

•Most Creative - Inky, owned by Charles Brown

•Canine Vogue - Inky, owned by Charles Brown

•Best Tail Wagger - Trixie, owned by Kathy Sullivan
Jane Millsap enjoyed getting her hair done.
The Clarke County Southern Cruisers sponsored their annual ride to benefit the CCARC.
A lot of folks enjoyed dancing to music provided by the band After Five.
Some local dog owners showed off their pets during the annual Do-Dah Parade and fashion show.
Mike Neal (front) was the male winner of the 5K Run. Behind him is second place winner Kent Myer.
Kathryn Pearson was the overall top female runner.
