'The Foreigner' to be presented by BTAPC

Gilbertown's Ballet and Theatre Arts Performing Company's current project is bringing the comedy "The Foreigner" by Larry Shue, to selected High School classes in the area. Plans are to provide scripts of the play for each student and teacher in the selected classes for study. A study guide, designed specifically to meet the curricular needs of high school students, will also be provided if desired. The culmination of this project is to bus the students to the theatre so that they can see and enjoy the play come to life.

This comedy is set in a fishing lodge in rural Georgia, it revolves around two of its guests, Englishmen Charlie Baker and Froggy Leseure. Charlie is so shy that he has trouble speaking to strangers. As a way of explanation, Froggy claims his friend is a native of an exotic country and does not speak a word of English.

Before long, Charlie finds himself privy to assorted secrets and scandals freely discussed in front of him by the other visitors. These visitors include a spoiled Southern belle, Catherine Simms; her fiancé Rev. David Lee, a seemingly humble preacher with a dark underside, her younger brother Ellard, a simpleton who attempts to teach Charlie English; and Owen Musser, the racist country property inspector, who plans to oust the property owner, Betty Meeks, and convert the lodge into a meeting place for the Ku Klux Klan.

Dates for this project are March 29 through April 4. No show on Wednesday night. Curtain will be at 8 p.m. except for Sunday, March 30 which will be at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets will go on sale soon at the usual banks and businesses in Choctaw and Washington counties. For information and reservations call (251) 843- 5138.
