Suspects flee, throw person from vehicle
By Evan Carden SA Editor

Two Deer Park residents are in custody following a chase involving Washington County deputies, March 17, during which an occupant of the suspects' vehicle was thrown out.

According to Washington County Sheriff's reports, Stacy Junior Brown, 26 and Nakiel Jermaine Bettis, 28, and a third person were pulled over by deputies Ferrell Grimes and DeShawn Holloway. During the traffic stop the suspects fled. While the deputies were in pursuit, Bettis and Brown allegedly threw the third occupant from the vehicle.

After traveling several miles, the suspects lost control of their vehicle and the deputies attempted to apprehend them. Both Bettis and Brown reportedly resisted and deputies used a Tazer to bring them under control.

According to sheriff's department records, Bettis had been arrested and released on $2,500 bond, three days prior, on a second degree possession of marijuana charge. He is currently being held on $8,500 bond for charges of attempting to elude, resisting arrest and reckless endangerment.

Brown is charged with reckless endangerment. His bond is $3,000.
