The Jackson Academy Eagles knocked off the South Choctaw Rebels and fell to Marengo to fall to 4-5 on the 2008 season.

"We aren't playing consistent enough," Eagle coach Bobby Carpenter said. "One game we will play good and then the next game we fall apart."

The Eagles have been getting solid pitching but shaky defense has resulted in several of the losses.

"We need to hit the ball better and play better defense. We have about three kids really hitting the ball well. Pitching has been decent, we just have to play better defense behind them," Carpenter said.

With six new starters on the 19-man roster, the Eagles are gearing up for what could be a solid year on the diamond.

"We have six new starters. We are working hard and hopefully we will get better," Carpenter added.
