Slayton honored with bridal showers

Jenilee Slayton of Tuscaloosa, daughter of Terri and Wayne Slayton of Jackson and brideelect of Dru Powell, son of Gwen and Danny Powell of Leroy, was recently honored with several parties.

Kitchen Shower

A kitchen shower honored Miss Slayton Saturday, March 1, 2008, at the home of Helen Guy of Jackson. Approximately 50 guests were in attendance. Co-hostess of the event was Betty Allday, also of Jackson.

The guestbook was an original Jackson Women's League Cookbook, which was later presented to Miss Slayton. Easter decorations adorned the home. An arrangement of spring flowers was the centerpiece of the main serving table.

Coffee punch, along with traditional wedding punch, cranberry, banana nut and date nut breads accompanied by blue cheese and date nut cheese balls, lady fingers and Mexican wedding cookies, lemon blossoms, petite sandwiches and other various hostess favorites, were all served to guests.

The bride-elect's grandmother, Patricia Slayton, chose this time to present the couple with a wedding gift of a handmade checkerboard path blocks quilt in the bride and groom's alumni colors of crimson and white. They also received a variety of handy kitchen gadgets, appliances, china and other miscellaneous gifts.

Special guests in attendance included the mother of the bride-elect, Terri Slayton; sister, Brooke Slayton; grandmothers, Dot Jones and Patricia Slayton, both of Jackson; mother of the groom-elect, Gwen Powell; and his grandmothers, Ann Overstreet of Laton Hill and Alline Garris of Leroy.

Out of town guests included Miss Slayton's great aunts, Mary Hinson of Grove Hill and Bernice Pugh of Calvert; and cousins of the future bride, Holly and Mary Anne Koon of Montgomery and Valeria and Hartleigh Gardner of Satsuma.

Bridal Tea

A bridal tea was hosted on Sunday, March 2, at the First Baptist Church of Leroy activities building.

Hostesses included Mary Ellen Allen, Joey Blount, Norma Blount, Sheila Boyles, Laura Delegal, Sandra Etheridge, Darlene Harper, Tammy Jones, Dorie Powell, Cheryl Reed, Missy Smith, Karen Watkins and Margaret Williams.

An arrangement of fresh cut ivory flowers centered the dining table.

A cake was served in the bride-elect's chosen colors of ivory and sage and was monogrammed with her future initials. Fruit, chicken salad croissants, hello dollies and pecan tassies along with punch were served.

Attending as special guests were Terri Slayton, mother of the bride-elect; Brooke Slayton, sister; Dot Jones, grandmother of the bride-elect; Gwen Powell, mother of the groom-elect; Ann Overstreet and Alline Garris, grandmothers of the groomelect; and Cindy Powell, aunt of the groom-elect.

Out of town guests included Emily Malone of Bay Minette and Leigh Ann Overstreet and Reba Libby of Mobile, all aunts of the groom-elect; Ryleigh Overstreet and Lathan Libby of Mobile, both cousins of the groom-elect; Kari Bagley of Trussville and Kim Gilder of Mobile.
