Lady Eagles win Monroe tournament

The Jackson Academy softball team won the Monroe Academy tournament Saturday in Monroeville. The Jackson Academy Lady Eagles softball team improved to 3-3 on the season after winning two of three games this weekend in Monroeville to win the Monroe Academy Tournament.

"I thought we played really good," Lady Eagles coach Christy Lowery said. "We hit the ball well and did a good running the bases," she added.

JA 12, Fort Dale 3

Kayla Lowery went 3-4 at the plate and Mallory Lankford went the distance on the mound to lead the Eagles to a 12-3 victory over Fort Dale Saturday, March 1.

Lankford picked up the win going five-innings and striking out three batters. Evin Bowling was 2-3, Sydney Thomas 2-4, Lankford 2-4 and Haley Overstreet 2-3 for JA.

Maggie Bowling, Carly Gates and Emerald McIntyre all added hits in the Lady Eagles rout.

JA 11, Southern 2 The Lady Eagles continued their hot hitting with an 11-2 win over Southern Academy in the tournament's second game. Lowery picked up the win on the mound, striking out three Cougars in three-innings of work.

Thomas led the Eagles at the plate going 3-3. Evin Bowling was 2-2, Lowery 2-3 and Maggie Bowling 2-2. Gates and Laken Harvey chipped in with one hit each.

Monroe 5, JA 4

Monroe was able to knockoff the Eagles 5-4 in the nightcap for their first win of the tournament. Lankford took the loss on the hill for the Lady Eagles.

Thomas was 2-3 to lead JA at the plate while Evin Bowling, Gates, Harvey, Overstreet and McIntyre added one hit each for Jackson Academy.

JA was scheduled to travel to South Choctaw Academy Tuesday, March 5 but due to wet field conditions the game was moved to Jackson. The Lady Eagles visit Marengo Academy Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
