Lady Aggies off to hot start in softball

The Jackson High School Lady Aggies are off to a fast start with a 4-2 record in 2008.

Jackson 5, Excel 1

JHS opened the season with a 5-1 victory over Excel Tuesday, Feb. 19. The Lady Aggies erupted for four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning en route to the victory. Danielle Gill went five innings only allowing one run to pick up the win on the hill.

Savananah Austin was 2-2 with a RBI, Nateline Moseley had a triple and scored two runs, Tiffany Beckham had a RBI triple, Gill added a RBI triple and Ashley Jordan was 1- 2 with a RBI to lead Jackson at the plate.

Jackson 9, Leroy 8

The Aggies battled back from a 6-0 deficit to knock off Leroy Saturday, Feb. 23 in the Thomasville Tournament. With the score knotted up at 8-8, Austin bunted in Brittnee Crayton from third for the winning run. Bridget Chancey picked up the win on the mound after allowing no runs or hits in three innings of work.

Crayton was 2-3 with three runs scored, Autry was 2-with a double and two RBIs, Anna Meitzler was 2-3 and Gill was 2-3 with a triple to lead the Aggies. Chancey added a triple, Moseley was 2- 4 with a RBI and a triple and Ashley Jordan added a single and two RBIs for Jackson.

Leroy's Alex Vick took the loss. Meg Smith was 3-5 with RBI and D.J. Snow was 3-with two RBIs to lead the Bears' offensive attack.

Thomasville 12, Jackson 4

Thomasville handed the Lady Aggies their first loss of the season with a 12-4 drubbing Saturday in Thomasville. Chancey took the loss on the mound. Jordan led the Lady Aggies at the plate with a 3-3 performance. Meitzler was 2-3 while Crayton, Chancey and Gill all added one hit each.

Jackson 6, Leroy 4

The Lady Aggies rebounded with another victory over Leroy in the next game. Chancey picked up the win on the mound striking out eight Bears in three innings of action. Meitzler was the leading hitter for Jackson going 2-3 with two RBIs. Crayton, Moseley, Gill and Jordan added one hit each. Heather Ryland took the loss for Leroy. Megan Goldman was 2-3 and Jessica Givens added a RBI double for Leroy.

Thomasville 15, Jackson 1

Jackson suffered another tough loss to Thomasville in the nightcap 15-1. Chancey was the losing pitcher. Autry, Chancey and Moseley all had hits.
