The Jackson Aggies baseball team opened up the 2008 season with a doubleheader split on the road against Andalusia.

The Aggies fell 10-6 in the first game thanks to a six-run third by the Bulldogs that included four hits and three Jackson errors. Cody Bayles (0- 1) took the loss on the mound giving up six runs on six hits in 2 1/3 innings.

"He (Cody) did what we asked him to do," Aggie coach Jason Jones said. "We didn't back him up on defense. We had four errors and that hurt him. There were some balls we lost in the sun but they (Andalusia) lost a few too."

Jeremy Reeves was the leading hitter for Jackson going 2-3 with two runs scored. Kent Meyer blasted a three-run bomb and Matt Allen went 2-4 with a RBI.

Jackson pounded out 17 hits in the nightcap to pull away with a 15-3 win. Meyer pitched five innings to earn the win. He struck out six, gave up three hits and three runs. Meyer also led the Aggies at the plate with a 4- 5 performance with a RBI. Jeremy Reeves was 3-4 with a three-run homer, and Sam Harbuck chipped in with a RBI and two hits in four trips to the plate.

"The biggest problem this weekend is the fact that we left 22 runners on base. The good news is we got that many out there, but on the flip side we didn't get them in. For an opening day game, we swung the bats pretty well. Cody (Bayles), Wiliam (Taylor), Kent (Meyer) and Jeremy (Reeves) all threw the ball well. They threw strikes and did what we asked of them. We still have some kinks to work out but overall we did okay," Jones said.

Jackson travels to Millry Wednesday at 6 p.m. The junior varsity game starts at 4.
