Stevens off to fast start for USA
By Chris Sherman SA Sports Writer

Jenny Stevens was 3-12 in this past weekend's Bama Bash in Tuscaloosa.
Former Jackson Aggie Jenny Stevens is finding success on the diamond for the South Alabama Jags.

After an impressive freshman campaign in which Stevens started all 59 games for the Jaguars and led the team in home runs with nine, things are looking even better in 2008. The sophomore recorded 37 runs, batted in 90 total bases, 26 walks, hit .320 and posted a .420 on base percentage in her freshman campaign. The second baseman also posted an impressive .941 fielding percentage. Already tabbed to the Sun Belt preseason All-Conference team, she got off to a fast start this weekend in the Bama Bash in Tuscaloosa although the Jags went 0-4 in the tournament that included Alabama, Purdue and Jacksonville State. Stevens went 3-12 for the weekend and scored three runs.

Stevens and outfielder Evelyne Pare were selected as preseason all conference selections.

"I'm happy for Evelyne and Jenny," USA coach Becky Clark added about the two all-conference picks. "It's always nice for the players to be recognized by the coaches in the league. I definitely think they deserve to be preseason picks based on their numbers from last year. I look forward to both of them being major contributors to our team this year along with the rest of their teammates."

South Alabama, after posting a 36-23 record in its inaugural season last year, is picked to finish fifth in the Sun Belt Conference.

Stevens is the daughter of Joy and Dr. Norman Stevens of Jackson.
