Lady Bears 2A Area 1 Champs
First Round Leroy 62, Excel 36 Leroy cruised to a 26-point victory in Thursday's opening round game with a 62-36 win over the visiting Excel Panthers. Ashley Snow was the game's leading scorer with 18 points. Ada Collins added 16 and Chaniqua McMorris had 10 for the Bears. Championship Leroy 41, Bayside 40 The Lady Bears rallied in the second half to pick up a onepoint win over Bayside Academy to win the area tournament championship. Tenera Pressley drained a basket with .10 seconds remaining to seal the victory for the Bears. Collins had 12 points to lead the Bears in scoring while Ashley Snow added nine. "We played fairly well," Leroy coach Connie Snow said. "We trailed from after halftime all the way to the last few seconds of the game. But we were able to pull through at the end with a big basket and a steal," he said.
Leroy (17-9) will host Luverne in a state sub-regional game Thursday night at 7.
