Lady Aggies win 4A Area 1

Jackson High School's Lady Aggies won the 4A Area 1 Championship with a 40-35 win over arch-rival Thomasville Saturday night in Thomasville.

First round

Jackson 52, Hillcrest 51

The Lady Aggies survived a last second shot by Hillcrest to escape with a narrow one-point win over Hillcrest-Evergreen in the opening round of the Area 1 tounrnament.

Genesis Bernard had a gamehigh 18 points for the Lady Aggies while Raven Tiggs added 14.

Championship

Jackson 40,

Thomasville 35

Jackson knocked off host team and number one seed Thomasville 40-35 Saturday night. Bernard led the Aggies with 21 points.

"Those were two big wins," Aggie coach Trinnia McKenzie said. "The kids have been working hard. (Winning) This was one of our goals."

Tiggs, Bernard, Brittanee Crayton and Iesha Bush made the all-tournament team.

Jackson (13-13) will host the Luverne Tigers Thursday night at 6 p.m. in a sub-regional game.

"We haven't watched any film on them yet but we know they are an aggressive, athletic defensive team," McKenzie said.
