Area Obituaries
Doris Jewel Gartman Tarver, a longtime resident of McIntosh, died Feb. 11, 2008 in a health care facility in Baton Rouge, La. She worked at Ciba-Geigy until retirement, was an active member of the McIntosh United Methodist Church and a volunteer at the McIntosh Public Library. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Claude Aaron Tarver of McIntosh; a daughter, Sandra (Richard) Sacco of Albany, Ga.; two sons, Andrew (Cathy) Tarver of Baton Rouge and Joseph Tarver of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; four granddaughters, Emily Sacco (Sewell) Avant of Atlanta, Ga., Carrie Sacco of Fayetteville, N.C., Ashley Tarver (Nathan) Donald and Stephanie Tarver, both of Baton Rouge; a grandson, Aaron Tarver of Ponte Vedra Beach; and one brother, Donald (Ernestine) Gartman of Jackson. Funeral services are at the McIntosh United Methodist Church today (Feb. 14) at 11 a.m. with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson is directing the arrangements. Dixie Beach Brown Dixie Delores Beach Brown, age 74, of Monroe, La., died Feb. 10, 2008. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Parents, Rufus and Dixie Beach, infant daughter Mary Diane and great-granddaughter Zoe Arie, preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband, Dwight Brown; three daughters, Debra (David) Daigle, Denise (Steve) Shannon, Dixie (Barry) Womble; six grandchildren, Josh and Jeremiah Daigle, Stephanie Shannon, Heather Brown, Taylor and Krista Siddon; one step-grandchild, Roman Womble; six great-grandchildren, LouLou, Radlee, Bronson, Marissa, Baylee and Landan; brothers Jimmy and Ray Beach of Jackson, as well as many loving friends and family including Patty Grubbs who was like an adopted daughter. Funeral services were at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel in Monroe, Feb. 13, with the Rev. Danny McIlveene officiating. Burial was at St. Maurice Cemetery, St. Maurice, La. Pallbearers were David, Josh and Jeremiah Daigle, Wesley Martin, Wayne Gourdon, Mike Judah and Mark Tingle. Honorary pallbearers were her nephews.
