Local swimmers compete in Ralph Crocker Classic Baldwin Mobile Aquatic Club (BMAC) competed in the 2008 Southeastern Ralph Crocker Classic Invitational Swim Meet at Auburn University earlier this month. The event attracted nearly 800 swimmers from 26 teams throughout the Southeast. BMAC swimmers claimed 11 new Southeastern Qualifying Time Standards and 39 top-10 finishes. Participating BMAC swimmers turned in a total of 136 personal best times.. Coach Rich Suhs anticipates continued improvement from the team and says, "I am very excited about the practice work the BMAC Swimmers have been doing, and I am looking forward to even more time drops during the rest of the season." Hannah Legg, 13, of Fairhope, won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:11 which qualified her for the Age Group Sectional meet to be held in North Carolina in March. Suhs explained, "This was a 3-second improvement for her, and she has been working very hard in our Senior Development program for that improvement." Hannah also placed third in the 100 yard backstroke, sixth in the 400 yard individual medley, seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke, and eighth in the 200-yard individual medley and 200-yard butterfly. Carrie Beverly, 11, of Jackson, earned a ninth-place finish in the 50-yard butterfly. Jessica Dubose, 14, of Daphne, earned a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly. She also claimed fourth-place positions in the 200-yard and 500- yard freestyle and six-place positions in the 100-yard and 1,650- yard freestyle. Michael Dubose, 16, of Daphne, placed fourth in the 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard butterfly as well as sixth in the 400-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly. He also earned a Southeastern Qualifying Time in the 100-yard freestyle. Impressed by their efforts, Suhs said, "On Friday, we had some fantastic 500 Frees from the Dubose family. Jessica went a 5:13 for a 9-second improvement, while her brother broke the 5-minute barrier with a 4-second improvement, going 4:58." Catharine Hardyman, 14, of Daphne, placed seventh in the 50-yard backstroke with a personal best time. Ross Hudson, 14, of Fairhope, improved his time in the 1,650- yard freestyle by more than 2 minutes, earning a seventh-place finish and a new Southeastern Qualifying Time. Stephen Jellenc, 12, of Montrose, had personal best times in five events. He placed fifth in the 500-yard freestyle, seventh in the 100-yard backstroke, eighth in the 100- yard breaststroke, and ninth in the 50- yard breaststroke. Suhs noted that Jellenc also, "made three more Southeastern Qualifying Times in the 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard IM, and the 200-yard freestyle, on his way to an overall 10th place point ranking finish in the 11-12 boys division." Helen Legg, 9, of Fairhope, had a 10th-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a personal best time. William Legg, 14, of Fairhope, placed eighth in the 50-yard breaststroke with a personal best time. Ben Morseth, 14, of Jackson, placed second in the 200y breaststroke. He finished fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke, sixth in the 100-yard backstroke, and seventh in the 200-yard backstroke. He also made a new 13- 14 Southeastern Qualifying Time in the 200-yard freestyle. Trista Phelps, 12, of Loxley, had a 10th-place finish in the 11- 12 girls 50-yard butterfly. Tyler Phelps, 13, of Loxley, placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke, eighth in the 200- yard backstroke, ninth in the 200-yard breaststroke, and a new Southeastern Qualifying Time in the 50-yard freestyle. John Colby Chastain, 14, of Jackson, made a Southeastern Qualifying Time in the 13-14 boys 100-yard breaststroke.
