Scholarship applications

available

The Jackson Rotary Club has scholarship applications available for all juniors and seniors in Clarke and Washington counties.

To be eligible, applications must be post marked and mailed by March 26, 2008. Mail to P.O. Box 22 Jackson, AL 36545.

Students may receive applications from any Rotarian. For further information contact Althea Thomas at 251-246-4425, extension 236.

JHS Class of 1998 plans

reunion

The Jackson High School Class of 1998 is planning their 10-year reunion at the Downtown Grill, Saturday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. For additional information contact Lev Holly at 251-769-6880.

JMC hosting blood drive

The Jackson Medical Center will host a blood drive on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 3-7 p.m. All donors will be entered into a drawing for a one-night stay at Silver Star Resort and Casino and a dinner for two at the Rib Shack. T-shirts will be given to all donors. For additional information contact Renee Foreman.

Be someone's hero and donate. Donors should bring a photo ID and donor card.

CCS&W board meeting

The Clarke County Soil & Water Conservation District board meeting will be Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 12:30 p.m. at the USDA office in Jackson.

The Washington County Soil & Water Conservation District will conduct its board meeting Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. at the Downtown Grill in Jackson.

The public is welcome to attend either of these meetings.

Clarke County Idol contest

March 15

The Pine City Park Committee is presenting a "Clarke County Idol" contest Friday, March 14, 7 p.m. at the Jackson High School auditorium. The application fee is $25, participants ages 12-19. Deadline for application is Feb. 25. Apply by contacting one of the school counselors or Karen Donald at 246-4028. General admission will be $5.

Upcoming Sickle Cell

fund-raisers

The Sickle Cell Disease Mobile Chapter, Inc. will present a Valentine's Gala Thursday, Feb. 14, 7-11 p.m. at the Museum of Mobile, 111 South Royal Street. Admission will be $40.

On Friday, March 7, 7 p.m. the 50th Annual Ebony Fashion Fair will be presented at the Saenger Theater Center for the Living Arts in Mobile. Admission is $40.

CEFCU announces meeting

The Clarke Educators Federal Credit Union annual meeting will be conducted at the Fish House in Jackson on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. All members and their families are invited to attend. Door prizes will be given.

Upcoming events at

Cultural Arts Center

Ezell's Contemporary Dance Theater and Promise Theater will be presenting several upcoming events in February and March.

On Feb. 22 and 23, at 7 p.m., "Black Pioneer Women of the Old West" will be performed. The play travels back in time to experience stories of five remarkable women: an ex slave, a Native American, a female Buffalo Soldier and more who helped make America great.

February 29 and March 3, 10 a.m., March 1 at 6 p.m. and March 2 at 5 p.m., the presentation will be "Freedom" and "The Underground Railroad." The struggles and triumphs of the African American people will be presented through storytelling, song and dance.

"Get Your House in Order" will find Pastor Phillips giving his congregation an ultimatum in a sometimes hilarious, often dramatic play, written by local playwright Linda Robinson of the Promise Theater playwriting program. It will be an event of March 8 at 7 p.m. and March 9 at 5.

Estate planning workshop

in Grove Hill

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System, the Grove Hill Chamber of Commerce and the Grove Hill Baptist Church are sponsoring an estate planning workshop Feb. 18 and 19. This event is free to the public and will be conducted in the fellowship hall of the Grove Hill Baptist Church.

Schedules are as follows: Monday, 6-6:10 opening remarks, 6:10-6:45 estate planning wills and heir property and 6:55-7:45 probate law, Tuesday, 6-6:10 review, 6:10-7 reverse mortgage and 7:15-7:45 trusts.

Times may vary due to questions and answers. All participants will receive, free of charge, a Living Will and Health Care Proxy. Participants may want to come prepared to take notes.

Diabetes Classes

Clarke County Voters'Annual

Black History Tea is Saturday

H.W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House, 500 Vanity Park Drive, Jackson, will be the site of this year's Clarke County Voters' League Annual Black History Tea. This event will be Saturday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. Mobile Mayor Sam Jones will be the guest speaker.

The theme for 2008 is, "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift called the present." The thought for the day will be, "Learn to dream while you are awake."

Pine City Park update

The Pine City Park Committee is continuing fund-raising efforts for the new Jackson Park. The committee is planning a Clarke County Idol competition for March 15, 7 p.m. at the Jackson High School auditorium. Registration forms are available from local school counselors or by contacting Karen Donald at 246-4028.

Social assistance Wednesdays

at Salvation Army

The Salvation Army Social Service office is open on Wednesdays from 9-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. When in need of assistance with food and a variety of other needs, the office attempts to assist where they can. For additional information call 246-5693.

Narcotics Anonymous meeting

Narcotics Anonymous will be meeting Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m., First Presbyterian Church, 302 E. Church St., Jackson.

Alcoholics Anonymous

Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are conducted in the fellowship hall of Visitation Catholic Church, West Clinton Street in Jackson Wednesdays, 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m.

Heart of Dixie Collectors Club meets last Monday of month

The Heart of Dixie Collectors Club will meet the last Monday of every month at the Jackson Steakhouse at 7 p.m. in the meeting room. Collectors of all types are welcome in sharing their knowledge and collections.
