Lady Demons win county championship
McIntosh tops Leroy in county tournament for 58th straight win to claim championship

The top ranked McIntosh Demons coasted through the Washington County tourney with wins over Millry and Leroy to win their 57th and 58th straight game on their way to the county championship.

First Round

Demons 84, Millry 20

McIntosh jumped out to a 24- 2 lead at halftime enroute to a a 64 point opening round win over Millry. Xavier Barnes was the leading scorer with 23 points for McIntosh. Brittany Simmons added 19 and Velencia Reed 18 for the Demons.

Leroy 61, Fruitdale 34

Ashley Snow scored 16 points, Ada Collins had 15 and Jackie Howell 10 to help Lero knock off Fruitdale in the first round of the county tournament.

Deanna Johnson led Fruitdale with 17 points.

Semifinals

Leroy 48, WCHS 45

Leroy knocked off Washington County 48-45 Thursday, Jan. 31 to advance to the championship game of the tournament and a shot at knocked off unbeaten McIntosh.

Collins scored 17 points and Ashley Smith 10 to lead the Bears in scoring. Amber Speights had a game-high 19 points for the Bulldogs while Heather Foster tallied 16.

Championship

Demons 78, Leroy 37 McIntosh improved to 23-0 on the year with a 78-37 drubbing of Leroy to win the tournaments championship. Velencia Reed scored 22 points while Jakia Reed and Xavier Barnes each chipped in with 18 points to lead McIntosh. Simmons added 12 points, 13 assist and 10 steals to pick up her 10th triple double of the season.

McIntosh hosts the 1A Area 1 tournament beginning Thursday Feb. 7 when the Demons meet up with the winner of the Sweet Water/Coffeeville winner from Feb. 4. Fruitdale and Millry meet up Feb. 8 at 6 p.m.

Leroy hosts the 2A Area 1 tournament beginning Feb. 7. The top seeded Bears are scheduled to take on the Excel Panthers at 7 p.m. Flomaton and Bayside meet up in the first game at 5:30.
