The life and music of gospel bluegrass performer and songwriter Jerry Sullivan was celebrated by family, friends and his peers Sunday at St. Stephens Baptist Church. The church sanctuary was packed with standing room only.

Joel Hemphill is an acclaimed gospel songwriter with more than 350 songs to his credit. Stuart is a long time, multifaceted country music artist who is best known for his association with Lester Flatt, Johnny Cash and Travis Tritt.

Jerry Sullivan received a plaque from Stan Wilson, general manager/CEO of the Clarke- Washington Electric Membership Corporation, for Sullivan's many contributions to the local community and being an ambassador for southwest Alabama. The Sunday event "speaks highly of you and shows the love of this community," Wilson said. "Your music is enjoyed not only across the United States but even throughout the world."
