Eagles JV finishes third in state tourney

The Jackson Academy junior varsity boys finished up their season with an 11-8 record and a third place finish in the state junior varsity tournament in Wilcox.

After falling behind 13-0 to Lakeside Academy in the opening round Tuesday, Jan. 22, JA battled back and eventually pulled out a 36-31 victory to advance in the State JV tournament.

Sam Scott had six points, Will Wright 11, Jon Harvey five, Sawyer Donald 12 and Storm Cabaniss two for the Eagles who are called the "magnificent seven" by their fans in reference to their seven member squad.

In the nightcap, Evangel Christian proved to be too much and pulled away with a 42-28 win to eliminate the Eagles. Scott and Donald each had eight points to lead the JA's scoring attack. Wright and Harvey added six points.

Sam Scott was named to the all-tournament team for his performance.

Clarke Prep School traveled to Jackson Academy Monday, Jan. 28 and the Eagles cruised to a 51-12 season ending victory of the Gators.

Jacob Williams had 15 points to lead the Eagles' offense. Sawyer Donald had 10, Jon Harvey and Storm Cabaniss had eight points each, while Robert Slayton and Will Wright added four points each for the Eagles.

•The junior varsity girls finished up the season with a 3- 12 record. Monday night against Clarke Prep, JA won 10-9.

Maggie Bowling had three points while Kellen Overstreet and Maggie Whitehead had two points each.
