Jackson Medical Center's (JMC) Urgent Care Clinic has a brand new home behind the hospital.

The triple-wide manufactured building gives the clinic muchneeded expanded space to operate, according to Office Manager Tina Reid.

The clinic, which is open 6 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday through Friday, offers services to people with minor emergencies such as cuts and minor injuries. "We don't see patients who are experiencing chest pains or uncontrolled bleeding," said Reid. "People with true trauma need to go to the hospital's emergency room."

Previously, the Urgent Care Clinic was located inside the hospital, where the staff utilized three small rooms. The new building has eight exam rooms, as well as work stations, a doctor's office, front reception/records room, waiting and a storage area.

Two physicians, Dr. Ikram Hussain and Dr. Shameer Abrahim, keep regular hours at the clinic. Dr. James Spires and Dr. Craig Cole, the hospital's new surgeon, also see patients there.

"We operate just like a regular doctor's office," explained Reid. "We offer many of the same services.

The clinic has two receptionists, Mary Goldman and Latarian Taite, and two medical assistants, Kenetha Patterson and Shea Williams. Shaye Pugh handles billing and insurance filing for the office.

Reid, a licensed practical nurse (LPN), has experience at JMC going back 12 years. Prior to taking over as manager of the Urgent Care Clinic, she worked as an emergency room nurse and a floor nurse.

"We are excited about this change, having more room to work and room for our patients," she said. "We hope this practice continues to grow and flourish."
