Marty Parker to seek full term on Clarke County BOE

Marty Parker
Marty Parker of Grove Hill, a member of the Clarke County Board of Education, has announced that he will seek a full elected term to the board this year.

Parker will be running as a Democrat for the District 1 seat, representing the Grove Hill area, in the June 3 primary.

He was appointed to a vacancy on the board in early 2006.

"I want to thank each person in District 1 for allowing me to be your school board member for the past years and I count it an honor to serve you. We have accomplished a lot of capital projects in the past years."

Parker detailed some of the accomplishments including the new Clarke County High School, CCHS baseball and softball fields, a new cafeteria at Jackson Middle School, improvements at Jackson High and a new music room along with plans for a new building on campus, converting the open classroom "pods" at Grove Hill Elementary into individual classrooms, helping renovate the CCHS football field with aid from the Quarterback Club and County Parks and Recreation Board, helping with paying for a new weight room at CCHS and updating and renovating the JHS baseball field.

All total, these projects amounted to more than $10 million.

"Our work is not done, it is just getting started. I have worked to create partnerships with education and business, so our kids can have good jobs when they graduate from high school/college. I also want to continue to work to improve our career tech offerings for the students in Clarke County. The most valuable resources we have are our children and they deserve the very best we can provide," said Parker, who is employed as technology resources and governmental affairs manager at the Boise paper mill in Jackson.

"I need your support and vote in the coming months to continue the great work we have started. Please vote to keep a man with proven leadership and integrity in office."
