MARK YOUR CALENDAR Governor to visit Jackson Gov. Bob Riley will visit Jackson on Feb. 11. He will be at Jackson High School at 9 a.m. and at Jackson City Hall at 11 a.m. The public is invited to visit with the governor at these locations. JHS Diamond Club hosting annual alumni game With baseball season on the horizon, the Jackson High School Diamond Club announces the annual alumni game to kick off the season. All alumni are encouraged to take part. The game will be Feb. 9, 1 p.m. at McCants Field. Donations of $20 are appreciated but not required. The Dan Keeton Quartet presents free concert A free concert will be presented by The Dan Keeton Quartet at the Bassett Creek Baptist Church on Sunday, Feb. 3 at 10 a.m. The church is located at 301 Bassett Church Road in Grove Hill. SWAIA sponsors poll workers' reception The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association (SWAIA) announce an upcoming event entitled, "An Evening of Appreciation For Clarke County Poll Workers." The reception is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 3, 4 p.m. at the H.W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House in downtown Jackson. The association pledges their support for and recognition for all current and long-serving poll workers who are so important to the voting process. Clarke County Voters' Annual Black History Tea is Saturday H.W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House, 500 Vanity Park Drive, Jackson, will be the site of this year's Clarke County Voters' League Annual Black History Tea. This event will be Saturday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. Mobile Mayor Sam Jones will be the guest speaker. The theme for 2008 is, "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift called the present." The thought for the day will be, "Learn to dream while you are awake." Pine City Park update The Pine City Park Committee is continuing fund-raising efforts for the new Jackson Park. Hand tiles will be made at Gillmore from 4-6 p.m. on Feb. 4. The committee is planning a Clarke County Idol competition for March 15, 7 p.m. at the Jackson High School auditorium. TCDC sponsors events The Toddtown Community Development Center's annual Beautillion and Cotillion will be April 5. The application fee for girls age 5-10 is $35; young men and ladies who are high school juniors through college sophomores, $75. Patricia Smith will entertain by singing. All are invited to attend. Singing Valentines to benefit RCAC A group of festive singers will deliver Valentine wishes in song, with a minimum of two songs, Thursday, Feb. 14, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m., at the location of your choice. The troubadours will deliver the singing Valentines to individuals for $20 and $50 for a group presentation. All proceeds will benefit the Regional Child Advocacy Center and are tax deductible. Social assistance on Wednesdays at Salvation Army The Salvation Army Social Service office is open on Wednesdays from 9-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. When in need of assistance with food and a variety of other needs, the office attempts to assist where they can. Heart of Dixie Collectors Club meets last Monday of month The Heart of Dixie Collectors Club will meet the last Monday of every month at the Jackson Steakhouse at 7 p.m. in the meeting room. Collectors of all types are welcome in sharing their knowledge and collections.
