Eagles' boys lose three; girls win two

The Jackson Academy Eagles' boys varsity basketball team suffered three tough losses this week to fall to 1-13 on the season.

Escambia Academy visited JA Tuesday, Jan. 15 and knocked off the Eagles 84-45. David Hughston was the leading scorer with 14 points for JA. Josh Williams and Dent Beard chipped in with eight points each, Wesley Harris had six while Sawyer Donald and Trent Slayton rounded out the scoring with three points each.

Things didn't get any easier for the Eagles on Friday, Jan. 18, with Sparta handing JA a 84- 29 loss. Slayton led the Eagles in scoring with 10 while Beard added seven in the loss.

Escambia knocked off JA for the second time with a 52-34 win Monday, Jan. 21 at home. Harris had nine points, Beard and Sam Scott had six and Will Wright had four. Jon Harvey and Hughston had three and Brandon Bradley added a bucket for Jackson.

•Lady Eagles win two

Jackson Academy's Lady Eagles won two games while losing only one this week to even up their record to 7-7.

Jackson dismantled Escambia Academy 64-43 Tuesday, Jan. 15 behind Evin Bowling's 39 points. JA sprinted out to a 19-5 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Maggie Bowling had 17 points, Kayla Lowery five, Nancy Evans two and Kellen Overstreet one for Jackson.

Sparta nearly doubled up the Eagles Jan. 18 handing them a 84-46 loss. Evin Bowling led the Eagles with 17 points. Evans and Amy Thomas each had six points, Lowery and Maggie Bowling had five points each and Laken Harvey added three.

The Eagles closed out the week with a 37-28 win over Escambia on Jan. 21. Evin Bowling had 20 points, Lowery had eight, Evans had five, Maggie Bowling three and Overstreet added one point for Jackson.

Jackson was scheduled to host Wilcox Tuesday, Jan. 22 and travel to Marengo Friday, Jan. 25.
