Woodyard honored by Alabama Hospital Assoc.
The luncheon is one of seven regional awards presentations being held as part of the association's fifth-annual statewide "Hospital Heroes" contest, an effort to honor the dedication of hospital employees and to highlight health careers. The contest will culminate with a banquet in February where up to 10 of the regional winners will be honored as statewide heroes. During her 28 years of employment, Priscilla Woodyard, a licensed practical nurse, has worked in every department at Jackson Medical Center, except surgery. She is said to provide extraordinary care to every patient and to be extremely respected by her peers. Coworkers claim that no matter how busy her shift may be, she always finds time to do special things for her patients, such as giving back massages to bedbound patients to help relieve pain. She has even been observed buying clothes and other personal items for patients who need them. "There are many nurses at Jackson Medical Center, as well as those who have moved on to other employment, who would say they would give anything to possess the compassion, knowledge and work ethic that Priscilla Woodyard possesses," said Teresa Grimes, administrator. "Priscilla has been and continues to be a wonderful mentor to many nurses and staff. Throughout the many changes in health care, Priscilla always seems to maintain a positive outlook no matter what." Grimes continued, "When reviewing past performance evaluations, there were never any negative comments, but one common theme was that 'Priscilla is the backbone of her shift'."
The Alabama Hospital Association, based in Montgomery, is a statewide trade organization that represents more than 100 hospitals and numerous other health care providers by offering membership services designed to enhance the provision of health care in Alabama.
