Mentoring group meets at JHS
Agroup of young men known as "The Messengers" met in the Jackson High School auditorium Friday, Jan. 18, as part of a mentoring program led by Anthony Ezell and Asberry Daffin. The program began with Daffin encouraging the group to dress nice and work to become responsible citizens. "You never get a second chance at a first impression," he said. A special song was presented by (top photo, L-R) DeJuan Jackson, Larry Wiggins and Brandon Johnson. Tim Mullinix, invited members of the group to participate in the First Baptist Church's Disciple Now event taking place the weekend of Jan. 25-27. Special speaker for Friday's program was the Rev. Kevin Jackson (left photo). His main message concerned making life choices and how they affect what happens in one's life. "Respect is an attitude," he said. "You have to give respect to get respect and you must earn it." He echoed Daffin's remarks about first impressions. Jackson went on to say that having the right attitude, being willing to make sacrifices and being determined all contribute to success. "Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, but the main thing is that you learn how to get back up," he said. "It all boils down to life choices."
