Parts of region get rare dusting of snow
Thomasville received about 3 inches of snow while Coffeeville, Chatom and other areas received 1 to 2 inches, according to the National Weather Service in Mobile. Grove Hill had a light dusting. Toxey in Choctaw County reported the largest snowfall in the area, some 4 inches. Jackson residents did not see any snow accumulation. Some Jackson and Grove Hill residents braved the icy roads to drive their children to Coffeeville to see and play in the snow. It hasn't snowed in years and some youngsters had never seen snow. Law enforcement officers and volunteer firemen were out in force patrolling the highways and working accidents that occurred as a result of the slippery roadways.
Highway 17 in Choctaw County was also closed for a time due to the snow.
Temperatures fell into the low 20s Sunday and Monday mornings and were expected to dip into the mid to upper 20s again Thursday.
