Illegal fire lane parkers caught in the act

Acouple of weeks ago I wrote a column concerning the need for illegal parking to stop in fire lanes at area shopping centers.

Since that time I have noticed that some have heeded the Jackson Police Department's warning and stopped parking in fire lanes, while others continue to ignore it.

I warned everyone that I would be on the lookout for those who continue to violate this law and would take photographs of their illegally parked vehicles to be published in The South Alabamian.

The safety issues surrounding this illegal activity outweigh sparing anyone's feelings. So, I have decided to use this space to display some of the photos I have taken during the past two weeks. If you recognize your vehicle, consider yourself caught and please do not repeat this infraction.

Might I also make a suggestion to the property owners where these businesses are located to have the fire lanes more clearly marked. Perhaps proper striping of these areas will help reduce the number of incidents of illegal parking.
