MARK YOUR CALENDAR The Dan Keeton Quartet presents free concert A free concert will be presented by The Dan Keeton Quartet at the Bassett Creek Baptist Church on Sunday, Feb. 3 at 10 a.m. The church is located at 301 Bassett Church Road in Grove Hill. For further information call 251-275-8063. 'Disciple Now '08' at First Baptist Church "Disciple Now '08" is scheduled for Jan. 25-27 at First Baptist Church in Jackson. This is an event for youth in grades 6-12 to fellowship, have fun and grow in their relationship with Christ. Registration will continue at First Baptist Church through Jan. 25. Applications are available in the church office. Cost for the weekend is $20 and includes all meals, a T-shirt and all other weekend activities. SWAIA sponsors poll workers' reception The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association (SWAIA) announces an upcoming event entitled, "An Evening of Appreciation For Clarke County Poll Workers." The reception is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 3, 4 p.m. at the H.W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House in downtown Jackson. The association pledges their support for and recognition for all current and long-serving poll workers who are important to the voting process. Clarke County Voters'Annual Black History Tea is Saturday H.W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House, 500 Vanity Park Drive, Jackson, will be the site of this year's Clarke County Voters' League Annual Black History Tea. This event will be Saturday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. Mobile Mayor Sam Jones will be the guest speaker. The theme for 2008 is, "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift called the present." The thought for the day will be, "Learn to dream while you are awake." Pine City Park update The Pine City Park Committee is continuing fund-raising efforts for the new Jackson Park. Hand tiles will be made at Gillmore from 4-6 p.m. on Feb. 4. The committee is planning a Clarke County Idol competition for March 15, 7 p.m. at the Jackson High School auditorium. CCHS meets Sunday The Clarke County Historical Society (CCHS) will meet on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 2:30 p.m. at the Grove Hill Town Hall. The speaker will be Dr. Jim Herod of Grove Hill. Dr. Herod and the Grove Hill Writers Club are writing a play about Fort. Sinquefield. The fort, located west of Whatley, was the site of an attack during the Creek Indian War in 1813. TCDC sponsors events The Toddtown Community Development Center is sponsoring a Mardi Gras ball on Friday, Jan. 25 at 8 p.m. The event will be at the H.W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House in Jackson. Steven and Schequetta Johnson Knight will be crowned the Mardi Gras king and queen at 8:45. Tickets are $15. AseraCare sponsors blood drive AseraCare will sponsor a blood drive on Friday, Jan. 25, 3-7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church Christian Life Center in Jackson. Singing Valentines to benefit RCAC Agroup of festive singers will deliver Valentine wishes in song, with a minimum of two songs, Thursday, Feb. 14, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m., at the location of your choice. The troubadours will deliver the singing Valentines to individuals for $20 and $50 for a group presentation. All proceeds will benefit the Regional Child Advocacy Center and are tax deductible. Wild game cookout Jan. 26 The Lil' House of Barbecue, off Highway 84 in Coffeeville, will be the site of the Coffeeville Wild Game Cookout Saturday, Jan. 26 at 11 a.m. There will be food, entertainment and games for the kids. Dr. Billy Powell, executive vice president of the Alabama Cattlemen's Association, will be the guest speaker. He is a native of Leroy. Social assistance on Wednesdays at Salvation Army The Salvation Army Social Service office is open on Wednesdays from 9-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. When in need of assistance with food and a variety of other needs, the office attempts to assist where they can.
