Residents to get new trash carts
By Ellen Williams SA Reporter

The Washington County Solid Waste Authority (WCSWA) met on Jan. 14 and chairman Allen Bailey reported a $82,414.01 balance and the acquisition of five new residential accounts.

A representative from Allied Waste (AW) was present in the meeting and told the board that he expects shipment of the new AW carts in about 10 days. Bailey also reported that many people have already called the WCSWA to request two carts. However, the board agreed to get one cart to all customers before issuing a second one.

There was discussion about how best to distribute carts and it was generally agreed that one road crew employee from each district would accompany the AW driver to help get out carts. Serial numbers will be assigned to a cart as it is left at each residence. There will be a data base of serial numbers to addresses.

David Kelly, environmental officer, reported that his office processed $40,000 in unpaid garbage fees last year and has collected $32,000.

The next meeting of the WCSWA is Feb. 11.
