Millry Town Council votes to raise salaries
By Frank Harwell SA Correspondent

Members of the Millry Town Council voted Monday night to increase the salaries of the mayor and council who will serve during the next administration. This is an election year.

The council voted to increase the mayor's salary from $200 to $450 a month, council members from $100 to $200 a month.

Councilman Mitchell Beasley voted against the motion; two members of the council were absent from the meeting.

For many months the council has been discussing the prospect of making renovations at the town's sewage lagoon, and another discussion was conducted Monday. The town faces a June 13 deadline set by Alabama Department of Environmental Management to make the renovations.

The town has been offered a grant of $50,000 to help finance the costs of aeration, dechlorination and cleaning of sediment ponds. Electric service must be extended to one pond.

The grant will come from the USDA's Rural Development Agency.
