Checkpoints net 115 citations/arrests The Washington County Sheriff's Department reported a number of citations and arrests for various violations during several checkpoints in the county over the weekend. The checkpoints were conducted at several locations on highways 45 and 43. Topping the list of violations was operating a motor vehicle without insurance. A total of 49 citations were written for that infraction. The department reported six arrests for possession of illegal drugs and paraphernalia and seven for driving under the influence (DUI). The sheriff's department was assisted by six agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) field office in Mobile, which supplied a mobile command unit for the operations. "We feel like we had a very productive weekend," said Sheriff Richard Stringer. "I believe this was the most tickets written by the Washington County Sheriff's Office in one weekend. We will continue to be tough when it comes to enforcing traffic violations. Our department certainly appreciates the assistance we received from the FBI. They don't normally participate in these types of operations, which just goes to show what can be accomplished by cooperation among various law enforcement agencies." Other violations included: *Five citations for no license plate *Fourteen arrests for failure to appear *Ten arrests for violation of the prohibition law *Six arrests for driving with a suspended license *Two citations for not using child restraints *Thirteen citations for driving without a valid driver's license *Two citations for expired license plates
*One arrest for possession of a pistol without a permit.
