McIntosh resident accused of rape
By Evan Carden SA Editor

A McIntosh man is out on $30,000 bond after being accused of raping a woman with whom he is acquainted.

Roy Weaver, 27, was arrested Jan. 9 and charged with first degree rape following a complaint to the Washington County Sheriff's Department by his alleged victim.

According to Chief Deputy Terry Beasley, the incident supposedly occurred in the victim's home Dec. 11, 2007, but wasn't reported until last week. "The victim stated that she tried to cope with what had happened, without reporting it, but couldn't and decided to file a report with the sheriff's office," said Beasley. "She named the alleged perpetrator and a warrant for his arrest was issued based on the information she gave us."

Beasley went on to say that several people contacted the sheriff's department inquiring if warrants had been issued. A couple of days after the warrants were filed, Weaver turned himself in at the sheriff's office.

The case will be presented at the upcoming grand jury term, which is scheduled for Feb. 11.
