Fire fighting class Jan. 14-18

The Leroy Volunteer Fire Department will host a Wildland Fire Fighting class at the station Jan. 14-18, 6-10 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 19, 8 a.m. until finished. Randy Kinman of the Alabama Forestry Commission will be the class instructor. Kinman was the 2003 Forestry Commission Ranger of the Year.

All area fire fighters are invited to attend.

MLK breakfast Jan. 12

The Clarke County Chapter of the Alabama Democratic Conference of Grove Hill is hosting the annual Dr. Martin Luther King prayer breakfast Saturday, Jan. 12, 8 a.m. at the Jackson National Guard Armory located on Highway 69 in Jackson. This event is in honor of Dr. King's birthday. The guest speaker will be Judge Marvin Wiggins of Greensboro.

The cost of this event is $10 per person.

The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association (SWAIA) announces its support of the Clarke County Chapter-Alabama Democratic Conference (ADC).

Mobile Symphony Youth concert Sunday, Jan. 13

The Mobile Symphony Youth Orchestra will give a concert Sunday, Jan. 13 at 2:30 p.m. at the Sage Auditorium at Clarke County High School. This group of 40 young people is very accomplished and professional. Everyone is invited to attend. The event is being hosted by the Community Study Club. For more information call 251-275-4755.

Scott family reunion

There will be a Scott family reunion meeting Saturday, Jan. 12, 2 p.m. at the Jackson Steakhouse. For more information call Allen Williams Jr., 246-7344, or Joann Washington, 246-4592.

Social assistance on Wednesdays at Salvation Army

The Salvation Army Social Service office is open on Wednesdays form 9-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. When in need of assistance with food and a variety of other needs, the office attempts to assist where they can. For additional information call 246-5693.

Narcotics Anonymous meeting

Narcotics Anonymous will be meeting Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m., First Presbyterian Church, 302 E. Church St., Jackson.

Alcoholics Anonymous meetings

Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are conducted in the fellowship hall of Visitation Catholic Church, West Clinton Street in Jackson Wednesdays, 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m.

Diabetes Classes

Diabetes classes will be conducted each Tuesday, 6:30 p.m. at the Jackson Medical Center. For additional information contact Rene' Forman, RN BSN, 251-246-9021.

Heart of Dixie Collectors Club meets last Monday of month

The Heart of Dixie Collectors Club will meet the last Monday of every month at the Jackson Steakhouse at 7 p.m. in the meeting room. Collectors of all types are welcome in sharing their knowledge and collections.

Some collections may include but are not limited to Indian artifacts, coins, postcards, old paper, books, bottles, advertising memorabilia, etc. For additional information contact Earl Handley at (251) 247- 2438.

Literacy meeting scheduled at St. Union Jan. 13

There will be a Literacy Meeting Sunday, Jan. 13, 6 p.m. at St. Union Missionary Baptist Church, Jackson, where the Rev. James M. Howard is pastor. This meeting is open to the general public and will focus on preparing residents of our area for the upcoming employment opportunities. Several speakers will be available to offer valuation information. All pastors are invited to encourage their congregations to attend. For more information contact the Rev. T. L.
