Pellet plant 'a go'; vote on some provisions delayed

      Jackson Mayor Richard Long reported to the city council, Tuesday, Jan. 8, that the Clarke County Commission had approved $250,000 to support the city's effort to provide support and services to the Highway 177 industrial park, clearing the path for a new wood pellet plant to be located there.

Correction
      Contrary to what was reported in last week's issue, two passengers in a Jan. 2 one-car accident on County Road 4 were injured. Wayne Reed, 28, and Amanda Anderson, 27, both of Jackson, remain in critical condition, according to a source at the University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile.

Search reveals illegal drugs in child's toy

      Officers conducting a search warrant at a Toddtown residence found drugs hidden in a child's toy and seized more than $1,500 worth of cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia Friday, Jan. 4.

E-911 dispatchers to be watched by cameras

      Complaints about county E- 911 staff and procedures were discussed Monday at the E-911 board meeting. Coordinator Becky Neugent attended a Jan. 3 meeting with deputies at the Sheriff's Department. The deputies complained that some of the dispatchers were not at their stations at key times.

Morvin man charged in theft of ATV

      A Morvin man was arrested Monday for stealing a four-wheeler in the Bashi community. Clarke County sheriff's deputies spent nearly 12 hours searching the area for Justin Maurice Cowan, 22, who is believed to have stolen the Honda fourwheeler from John Harrison about 10 a.m.

      Two separate traffic stops by McIntosh Police resulted in marijuana possession charges against a Mobile man and a Fairford resident. A traffic stop by officer Brad Singleton, Dec. 28, led to the arrest of Robert V. Weaver, 30, of Fairford.
