Former pastor to speak at First Assembly of God

Rev. Robert Rogers
The Rev. Robert Rogers and his family first resided in Jackson from 1954-1959 at the First Assembly of God. The Rev. Rogers said, "The church was a small block building with no Sunday School rooms. The pews were homemade and uncomfortable. One of the things we did was raise enough money to buy new pews. We needed Sunday School rooms badly, but had no money to have them built. By faith, we moved forward to build them anyway."

Returning in 1976 the pastor and church moved forward in locating the property where the church is currently situated. The family departed Jackson for the second time in April of 1986 relocating to Northport to pioneer a church there.

The Rev. Rogers of Woodbridge, Va. is now 81 years of age and has been in the ministry for 60 years. He was ordained in the Assemblies of God in 1950 and has led five congregations in building new churches, pioneering three of them. The Rev. Rogers will be speaking at the First Assembly of God Church on Sunday, Jan. 6 at 10:45 a.m.
