Step Sing set for Nov. 30

The annual Christmas Step Sing is planned for Sunday night, Nov. 30, at 6 p.m. on the steps of the First United Methodist Church in Jackson. Local church and school choirs are invited to participate.

Choirs are asked to call the FUMC at 246-2224 if they are planning on singing a selection of Christmas music.

Those attending are asked to bring a lawn chair and a blanket if the weather so requires.

JHS Class of '79 announces planning meeting

Jackson High School Class of '79 reunion planning meeting will be Saturday, Nov. 29, 10 a.m., in the JHS Library. For additional information, contact Betty Washington, 251-246-5096.

Coffeeville RSVP to meet

The Coffeeville RSVP will meet Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1 p.m. at the Nutrition Center. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish for this holiday luncheon, as well as a small gift to play "Dirty Santa." Everyone is invited to attend.

JIS honors retired teachers

Retired teachers from Jackson Intermediate School will be honored with cake and coffee Friday, Nov. 21, at 1 p.m. JIS retired educators are encouraged to join in the fellowship and to tour and see how schools and technology have changed since they've retired.

People First hosts chili lunch

People First is hosting a "Family and Friends" lunch at CCARC on Tuesday, Nov. 25. The menu is homemade chili, dessert and tea. The cost of lunch is $3. Take out orders are available. Notify Vernell by Friday, Nov 21. CCARC is located at 501 Forest Ave. in Jackson.

Coffeeville to host 'Tour of Homes' and Christmas parade

Coffeeville's Tour of Homes will be Sunday, Dec. 7, 2-4 p.m. Selected homes will be open for a tour of holiday décor. Tickets will go on sale the day of the event, Dec. 7, 1:30-2:30 p.m., at the Masonic Lodge in Coffeeville.

The town's 9th annual Christmas parade has been announced for Saturday, Dec. 13 at 10 a.m. Festivities and the announcing of float winners will immediately follow the parade in the Masonic Lodge Park area. There will be food, entertainment and merchant venders.

Booth spaces are free, unless electricity is required. Those interested in entering a float should call in advance. For additional information call 251- 276-3831.

25th annual Peterman Station Arts and Crafts Festival is Nov. 22

Downtown Peterman, six miles north of Monroeville, is the setting of the 25th annual Peterman Station Arts and Crafts Festival. The town is a typical early 1900s southern railroad town. More than 100 booths filled with arts, crafts, baskets, ceramics, wood items, Christmas decorations, jewelry, purses, knives and more will be on display. Exhibitors will be present from across Alabama and surrounding states.

Williams descendants to host family reunion Nov. 22

Descendants of Isham Jefferson Williams and Sarah Agnes Brown Williams will gather at the Thomasville City Park Saturday, Nov. 22, 11 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Family members are encouraged to bring a covered dish to the event.

Relatives of the couple are located throughout the Southeast. Descendants can e-mail the family reunion site at clarkecountywilliamsfamily@ gmail.com for more information. Photographs of the event will be posted soon on a Web site dedicated to the family genealogy.

Small business counseling to be offered

The University of West Alabama Small Business Development Center has partnered with the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce to provide no cost counseling services to local small businesses. Assistance will be provided in the area of business plan development, financial and loan packaging, management consulting, business regulations and licenses, marketing planning and other small business needs. Appointments may be scheduled for Dec. 9, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., at the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce.

Social assistance on Wednesdays at Salvation Army

The Salvation Army Social Service office is open on Wednesdays from 9-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. When in need of assistance with food and a variety of other needs, the office attempts to assist where they can. For additional information call 246-5693.

Narcotics Anonymous meeting

Narcotics Anonymous will be meeting Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m., First Presbyterian Church, 302 E. Church St., Jackson.

Alcoholics Anonymous meetings

Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are conducted in the fellowship hall of Visitation Catholic Church, West Clinton Street in Jackson Wednesdays, 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m.

Diabetes Classes

Heart of Dixie Collectors Club meets last Monday of month

The Heart of Dixie Collectors Club will meet the last Monday of every month at the Jackson Steakhouse at 7 p.m. in the meeting room. Collectors of all types are welcome in sharing their knowledge and collections.
