Lady Aggies win Tip-Off Classic

(SA photo by Chris Sherman) The Jackson Lady Aggies kicked off the season last week with a loss to Blount but improved to 2-1 by winning the Lady Bear Tip-off Classic in Leroy.

"It was a typical first week," Aggie coach Trinnia McKenzie said. "The first game against Blount gave us a chance to get in sync as a team. We did a lot of good stuff.

"We moved the ball up and down the floor well for a first game. We are still learning about each other on the floor as we have a whole new group of girls playing together."

Blount 46, Jackson 28

The Aggies started the season with an 18 point loss on the road to Blount. KeChonda Martin led the Lady Aggies on the court with eight points and six rebounds.

Leroy Tip-Off Classic Jackson 56, WCHS 43 Jackson picked up their first win of the season with a 56-43 victory over Washington County in the first round of the Lady Bear Tip-Off Classic Thursday, Nov. 6. Martin had another big night with nine points and five rebounds. Shanavia Ervin also added five rebounds for the Aggies.

Amber Speights tallied 16 points for the Bulldogs.

Jackson 45, Leroy 30

In the championship game, the Lady Aggies defeated the Leroy Bears 45-30. Martin picked up another 17 points to go along with five rebounds. Ervin added five rebounds.

Chiniqua McMorris led the Bears with 17 points.

"In the Tip-off Classic we played together as a team. No one really stood out. We have seven post players and they all had six or seven points. We have a lot to work on but I am pleased with our first week," McKenzie said.

Jackson travels to Quitman, Miss. Saturday.
