Jackson Health Care Facility is all about adding quality to life
The key to quality care at Jackson Health Care Facility (JHCF), located at 2616 College Avenue, is making its residents feel as comfortable as possible by creating a caring home setting.
Those who have a three-day hospital stay and meet the medical criteria may be eligible for a Medicare paid stay at the skilled nursing care facility for up to 20 days.
A staff of qualified health professionals offers services to meet all of the residents' needs. The facility's 120 employees include registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical nurses (LPNs), trained in providing care to geriatric patients; certified nursing assistants (CNAs), trained in providing care to patients who have been diagnosed with dementia.
"Our employees are trained to meet the special needs of geriatric patients and receive continuous training," said JHCF Administrator Bonnie Pope. "We offer rehabilitation services that include physical therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy. Adaptive equipment is available to patients to help improve their quality of life. After a qualifying hospital stay, a patient can come here and receive therapy which will enable them to return home."
JHCF Activities Director Betty Johnson plans activities for residents which include parties, bingo, exercise, music, community outings and religious programs. The Red Hat Society holds monthly luncheons and is of special interest to the ladies. School children are encouraged to come for intergenerational activities.
Wanda Blount is JHCF's full-time social worker. She is available to explain Medicare and Medicaid benefits that patients may qualify for.
Meals are planned by a registered dietician and patients are encouraged to voice their food preferences. "We want to make our residents feel at home by telling us what they want," said Pope.
Other services offered include housekeeping, laundry and maintenance.
As administrator of the facility, Pope has more than 30 years experience in nursing facility administration. For more information about JHCF's services call (251) 246-2476.
