WCDEC helps candidates/reviews court order
The Washington County Democratic Executive Committee (WCDEC) met Thursday, Sept. 25 at the county courthouse. The Contributions Committee's report was to give each of the three county commissioners with opposition $500 to help with their campaigns.
In other business, Tommy Fuller, chairman reported that Washington County election officials remain under a 1984 federal court order mandating specific numbers of African American chief inspectors and poll workers per precinct.
Probate Judge Charles Singleton who is responsible for election regulations told the group that a federal court order is not a "…suggestion; it must be met." He announced the next poll workers school for Oct. 28 and 30, and reminded poll workers that the county election committee appoints poll workers. He asked that they call the election committee if a poll worker cannot work and the committee will choose from a list of alternates.
Chairman Fuller said the WCDEC would not meet again until January.
