Ruby Elizabeth Thornton, a native of Washington County and resident of Chatom, died Sept. 22, 2008, at a local hospital, at the age of 95. She was a member of South Oak Grove Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, Pete Thornton of Chatom; two daughters, Louise Clark of State Line, Miss. and Kathleen Dixon of Chatom; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were Sept. 24 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom with the Revs. Frank Thornton and Ricky Revette officiating. Interment was in the Milstead Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Gavin Scarbrough, Leo Scarbrough, Howard Scarbrough, Sam Baxter, Mark Davis and Buddy Reynolds.
