Ellenar Viola Carney, a native of Choctaw County and a resident of Chatom, died Sept. 11, 2008 in Decatur. She was a cook for Washington County Hospital and a member of the Chatom Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Delbert (Betty) Carney of Chatom; three daughters, Patsy (Bob) Moore of Shorter, Virginia Carney of Mobile and Ruth Ann (Tommy) Paulk of Decatur; one brother, George Carney of Chatom; two sisters, Mildred (Jack) Coleman and Lucy Bell Holcombe, both of Mobile; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Sept. 13 at the Chatom Baptist Church with the Rev. Monte Mills officiating. Interment was in the Tally Loper Cemetery in Chatom with Lathan Funeral Home of Chatom directing.
