JA volleyball team off to 4-2 start

The Jackson Academy volleyball team is off to a 4-2 start on the season.

"I think we have played pretty good so far," Eagle coach Kristy Lowery said. "I hope we can continue to improve throughout the season."

JA hosted Shelby and Cornerstone Aug. 23. JA knocked off Shelby 25-8, 25-9 and 25-4. Carley Gates and Maggie Bowing had eight aces; Leea Sullivan had six aces; Laken Harvey had four aces; and Kayla Lowery had one kill.

Against Cornerstone, the Eagles won 25-10, 25-8, 20-25, 25-1. Bowling had 10 aces; Gates had six aces, two digs and four kills; Lowery had three digs and four kills; and Ericka Williams chipped in with three kills.

The Eagles fell at home to Morgan Academy Aug. 26 by scores of 20-25, 20-25, 25-23 and 14-24.

Lowery had eight digs, five kills and three blocks; Gates had three digs, seven kills and five blocks; Williams had six digs; and Haley Overstreet had six digs in the loss.

Clarke Prep topped the Eagles 13-25, 17-25, 25-16, 25-16 and 10-15 Sept. 2 in Grove Hill. Lowery had seven digs, two blocks and eight kills; Gates had three digs, four blocks and 12 kills; Bowling had two aces; and Renee Wilson had six digs.

The Eagles hosted a doubleheader against Open Door, winning both matches. In the first match, 25-14, 25-17 and 25-11. Gates had eight kills and one block to lead the Eagles.

In the second match, Jackson won 25-13, 18-25, 25-23 and 25- 14. Lowery had seven digs and 13 kills; Gates had three digs, three blocks and 12 kills; Overstreet had three digs; and Bowling had three aces.
