11-year-old All-Stars finish second in state

The Jackson 11-year-old Little League All-Stars finished second in the state after falling to West Side of Mobile in the championship game in Sylacauga July 25.

"I am extremely proud of the boys," Head Coach Bud Powell said. "We were in Sylacauga for a week. It was a long week. Coming in second place in the entire state of Alabama is a huge accomplishment."

Jackson 9, Brewton 1

Jackson started off the tournament with a 9-1 win over Brewton thanks to a 10 strikeout complete game performance from Braxton Wallace.

Braxton Baker led the Jackson All-Stars at the plate with a 3-4 night that included a homer and two doubles. Christopher Taylor was 2-3 while Kirk Poellnitz, Wallace, Joseph Windham, John Thomas Raybon, Jordon Bernard, Jerel Foreman and Jacob Sullivan all had one hit each.

Jackson 9,

Phoenix City 6

Sullivan, Taylor and Adam Powell all were 3-3 as Jackson held onto a 9-6 win over Phoenix City July 20. Baker added a triple for the All-Stars while Chandler Thomas, Windham, Foreman and Bernard all had one hit each.

West Side 7,

Jackson 6

Jackson suffered their first loss with a one-run defeat to West Side. Baker led things off with a lead-off homer and finished the game 2-3. Poellnitz and Sullivan both chipped in with 2-3 performances while Wallace, Thomas and Foreman collected one hit each.

Jackson 9,

Huntsville 8

The All-Stars rebounded with a 9-8 comeback win over Huntsville to advance to the championship game. Huntsville led 3-0 after two innings before Taylor led off the third with a solo-homer. Jackson answered with three more runs in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead.

After Huntsville scored four in the fifth, Wallace blasted a three-run homer to put Jackson back on top 9-7.

Huntsville scored one more in the sixth but Jackson was able to hold on for the win. Taylor was 3-3; Wallace 2-3; and Bernard 2- 2. Sullivan, Powell, Baker and Thomas all had one hit.

West Side 12,

Jackson 3

Jackson's magical run ended with a 12-3 loss to West Side in the championship game. Jackson jumped on top 2-0 in the first inning but their only other run came off a Taylor homer in the fifth. Sullivan was 2-3 while Taylor, Baker, Powell, Thomas, John Thomas Raybon and Bernard all had one hit each.

Jackson was coached by Bud Powell and Ronnie Wallace. Team members are Braxton Wallace, Braxton Baker, Joseph Windham, John Thomas Raybon, Jordon Bernard, Jerel Foreman, Kirk Poellnitz, Christopher Taylor, Chandler Thomas, Jacob Sullivan and Adam Powell.
