Arnold chosen delegate for 'Be Ready Camp'
      Janie Renae Arnold, daughter of Kevin and Vince Arnold of Montgomery and formerly of Jackson, has been chosen one of Montgomery County's Youth Preparedness delegates for "Be Ready Camp." Her essay won her a place as one of six students chosen to represent the Montgomery County at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Sept. 9-13.

      Jackson Middle School will host 2008-2009 registration the school cafeteria on Aug. from 1:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Students will have the opportunity to meet their teachers, purchase a locker and familiarize themselves with the school.

Johnson earns superior rating, earns grand championship trophy
      Ryan Johnson, Leroy High School's drum major, recently attended MA Auxiliary camp at the University of South Alabama. He is the son of Cheryl and Derrick Johnson of Leroy. Receiving two superior ribbons and the grand championship trophy, as well as an allstar ribbon guaranteeing him a spot in the 2009 Capitol One Bowl half-time performance in Orlando, Fla.

ACCESS Distance Learning ahead of schedule
      All high schools in Alabama will have ACCESS Distance Learning by the time school begins in August 2009, Governor Bob Riley and State Superintendent of Education Joe Morton announced recently. That's one year ahead of schedule.

Donald makes Dean's List
      Darian M. Donald was named to the East Mississippi Community College's Dean's List for the spring semester 2008. The Dean's List includes students with a semester average of 3.50 and above GPA. Donald is a guard/forward on the Lions' basketball team. He is the son of Curtis and Carol Donald, formerly of Jackson and Grove Hill, respectively.

Johnson added to President's List at University of South Alabama
      The University of South Alabama (USA) has announced that LaTreasure S. Johnson, daughter of Lorraine and Clarence Johnson of Leroy, achieved a perfect scholastic grade-point average of 4.0 for the spring semester of 2008. Her name has been added to the President's Scholars list.

Workday planned at JA
      A work day is planned at Jackson Academy Saturday, July 19. Parents, teachers, board, staff and SGA members are asked to come with cleaning supplies and help clean the school. The work day will be 8 a.m. until. Parents are urged to come and help clean classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, etc.
