Dr. Gene K. Smith, 76, of Bridgeport, died June 29, 2008 at a hospital in the Bridgeport area. He was a retired doctor of optometry and practiced in Oakland, Calif. through 1988. A U.S. Army veteran, he was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Masons, as well as being an Eagle Scout.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Emily Graham Smith of Bridgeport and several cousins.

A memorial service will be conducted at a later date in Bridgeport. Arrangements are by Williamson & Sons Funeral Home in Soddy-Daisy, Tenn.
