Lady Eagles win one, lose one
By Chris Sherman SA Sports Writer

Coach Mike Garrett's Jackson Academy Lady Eagles thumped rival Clarke County and fell to Sparta to drop to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in area play in the first half of the season.

"This is the same record we had last year at the break (Christmas)," Garrett said. "We are making steady improvement."

Sparta 74, JA 53

Evin Bowling scored 21 points and the Eagles trailed by only three points in the first quarter but it wasn't enough against knock off Sparta. The Warriors went on a 25-8 run in the second quarter to take a 41-27 lead into the half en route to the blowout win.

JA 52, Clarke Prep 40

JA trounced the Clarke Prep Gators 52-20 Dec. 13 in Grove Hill. Bowling scored 27 points as the Eagles cruised to a 31-13 lead at intermission. Kayla Lowery had one of her best nights of the season for the Lady Eagles with 12 points while Maggie Bowling added nine in the win.

"We are getting ready for area play now. Our area is a lot stronger than it was last year. Wilcox and Escambia are much improved.

"We won some close games last year and we will have to win some close ones this year," Garrett said.
