Aggies breeze through Christmas Classic
"We played well over the week," Aggie coach Marcus Caster said. " We wanted to work on our defense because we have not had a problem scoring on offense. So defense is where we wanted to improve and we did. We are going to have to play strong defense down the stretch as we enter into area play." JHS 81, Leroy 51 The Aggies exploded in the third quarter, outscoring the Bears 27-16 to pull away after leading by only 10 at the half. Corey Besteda was dominant on the boards for the Aggies with 12 rebounds and was the leading scorer with 25 points. Josh Ezell had 12 and Gabriel Mass added 10 for the Aggies. Patrick Rivers and Jerome Taylor led the Bears with 11 points each. JHS 83, C.V. Bethel 50 In the first game of the Aggies' Christmas Classic, Jackson smoked the Bahamas'C.V. Bethel by 33 points thanks to a 31-6 outburst in the first quarter that included seven three's. B.J Brown led the onslaught with 27 points including four from three-point range in the first quarter. Mass had 15 and Ezell chipped in with nine for the Aggies. Jamal Moxey scored 10 and Rashad Richardson had nine to lead Bethel. JHS 84, C.R. Walker 67 After a sluggish first quarter that witnessed the Aggies clinging to a 12-8, Jackson found motivation from an unusual source. Assistant coach Trevor Grant was ejected as the second quarter got underway and the Aggies erupted going on a 32-12 run to close the half. Besteda led JHS with 20 points. Darius Austin had 14 and Ezell added 11 Trey Bon Grant scored 26 for Walker and was named Tournament MVP. Patrick Watson added 17 for Walker. JHS 61, Bahamas 27 It only took one half of play for the Aggies to show their dominance in the tournaments' last game as Jackson sprinted out to a 32-8 lead at intermission with the starters giving way to backups in the second half. Roderick Washington led all scorers with 14 points. Besteda, Austin and Ezell had eight points each.
"It was good to get our backups some quality playing time. We are going to need them down the stretch. "I want to again thank the Downtown Inn and the Econo Lodge, the administrators and supporters at JHS, The South Alabamian for their coverage and the city of Jackson for helping with the tournament It was a success, " Caster said.
