Curtis Armstead Curtis Armstead, age 85, a native and resident of the Allen community of Grove Hill, died Dec. 22, 2007 at the William F. Green Veteran's Home in Bay Minette. He spent his younger years in Richmond, Ind. where he was a member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church. AWorld War II Veteran of the Army Air Force, he was honorably discharged. A retiree of International Harvester in Richmond and the city of Richmond, he was a member of the Elks Onyx Lodge and affiliated with the Masonic Order. After retirement, he returned to Allen and joined Mount Horeb African Methodist Episcopal Church where he served as a steward and trustee. His brother, Ellis, and three sisters, Emma, Rosetta and Louella preceded him death. Survivors include his wife, Mary Armstead of Allen; three sons, Jackie Armstead of Richmond, Larry (Diane) Armstead of Yorba Linda, Calif., Kim (Mitzi) Armstead of Delaware, Ohio; and three daughters, Muneen Blanton of Atlanta, Ga., Curtistine Armstead and Doris Jean Sheppard, both of Dayton, Ohio; five stepsons, Alfred (Ruth) Bowen and Robert (Hettie) Bowen of Richmond, Henry (Gwen) Briggs Jr. and John Briggs, both of Allen and Jeffery Briggs of Topeka, Kan.; two stepdaughters, Toby Austin of Cleveland, Ohio and Tannia Rile (fiancé Henry Dosey) of Richmond; two sisters, Frankie (Joe) Carter and Gertrude Carter, both of Richmond; one brother, James Bonner of Richmond; 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 17 step-grandchildren and 15 step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday, Dec. 27, 1 p.m. at Mount Horeb African Methodist Episcopal Church of the Allen community with the Rev. Lewis Chapman, pastor, officiating. Viewing will be from 12 noon until the 1 p.m. funeral hour. Burial will be in the Wayman Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery in the Suggsville community with military rites at graveside. Arrangements are being directed by Andrews Funeral Home, Jackson.
