Jackson Intermediate student wins A.G.S. essay contest

The Alabama Gas Corporation recently selected 13 winning students in their 2008 Alabama Gerontological Society's (A.G.S.) Essay/ Calendar contest.

Students from throughout Alabama entered this contest and Amber Nicole Holly, a fourth grader at Jackson Intermediate School was one of the 13 chosen winners.

The contest asked students to write an essay about their favorite older person. Holly wrote about her relationship with her grandmother, Hattie Campbell.

She was published in the A.G.S. calendar and will receive a $100 savings bond. Her teacher, LaRosia McKenzie, will receive $100 to use for classroom instructional purposes.
