Suspect charged in two burglaries The Clarke County Sheriff's Department held an investigation into the burglary of Walter Turk's residence Dec. 10 on County Road 20 in the Morvin area. Taken from the residence were a shotgun and a handgun along with rolls of change, said Ron Baggette, chief investigator. During the investigation Baggette discovered that William Cowan, 20, of the Morvin community, had been spending some rolled coins at a local store in the area on Dec. 21. Baggette, Narcotics Investigator CPL. Steve Carlisle, Deputy Patrick Champion and Deputy Rob Bost went in the area to locate Cowan for questioning. It was also discovered that Cowan had warrants for his arrest out of Coffeeville for burglary, escape, and numerous other charges. The suspect was found on Cirrus Road north of Coffeeville in a vehicle and was taken into custody. Cowan made a statement that he could take us to the stolen guns from the Turk burglary. The suspect took authorities to a location on Highway 69 just across the county line in Marengo County, and both guns were found just off the side of the road.
The suspect was taken to the Clarke County Jail and booked for burglary, first degree, along with the charges for Coffeeville.
